Stacy A. Bourne FAIA is a diversified entrepreneur, owning a copy center and practice architecture. She is committed to enhancing experiences for others through design and believes in an inclusive, collaborative team approach, bring all the participants together and determine the true underlying values. 

Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Stacy has been a US Virgin Islands resident since June 1990. She holds a bachelor’s of Architecture, Masters of Architecture, and Master of Architecture and Urban Design degrees from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana and Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. After acquiring her license from the National Council of Architecture Registration Boards in 1994, she opened her own architectural firm, Innovations be Design. She subsequently attained and maintains licenses to practice Architecture in Georgia in 2000 and Missouri in 2005. 

Stacy also participates in a host of organizations to improve her community and profession. She received the Richard Upjohn Medal in December 2011 for her serve on the National Board of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), representing approximately 4000 architects in the Florida/Carribean Region. She chaired the AIA Board Diversity Council, participated on the AIA Secretary’s Advisory Committee, coordinated the National AIA for Haiti efforts, fostered the AIA Women’s Leadership Summit and organized many convention events, among numerous other initiatives. She has become a passionate spokesperson for advancing Diversity and inclusion opportunities for under represented groups in the profession and building relationships with other organizations. She served 4 terms as AIA Virgin Islands President, is a member of the national Organization of minority Architects (NOMA) and the Federation of Caribbean Association of Architects (FCAA), through the AIA Virgin Islands Chapter.

Representing Inclusion and Diversity

The Bourne Group is dedicated to support. Ms Bourne sponsored, lobbied, and furthered the cause of increasing representation, advancing diversity and fostering inclusion in the profession and AIA.. Her leadership was a key element in major events such as Diversity Action Plan, Gateway Commitment, AIA/NOMA Memorendun of Understanding, Women’s Leadership Summits, numerous convention events, and mentorship  programs, for the enrichment of diversity in the profession. Their success, speaks clearly of her power of persuasion and diplomatic demeanor, establishing Ms. Bourne as a leader at the National Level. 

Promote Regional Achitectural Relationships

Ms. Bourne pioneered the fertile exchange of ideas and experiences with architects of the Caribbean and AIA. She organized and led visits to working meetings with the Federation of Caribbean Architectural Association in Cuba and Puerto Rico, while fostering the values of the gateway Commitment in the Florida/Carribean Region, the first and only AIA region demonstrating value by all component Boards’ signing the legendary document. She also envisioned, sponsored, and led from National, the AIA’s relief efforts for Haiti in the aftermath of their devastating earthquake. Finally, she established monthly AIA regional leadership meetings, steered fiscal responsibilities and provided for a stronger, healthier and more proactive region. 

 

Expanding the Architectural Body of Knowledge

Ms. Bourne promotes balanced options on the power of architecture in design, technical expertise, commitment to a better environment and the adoption of codes and regulations, is well received by colleagues and community leaders. She has consistently been featured as an effective spokesperson, regarding architecture, entrepreneurship, and women’s leadership; by her own example. Her own built work has shown an exemplary capacity to listen to community needs and address them with tropical design solutions throughout the Caribbean.
